May 6, 2015 board meeting minutes


 TOWN OF ARBOR VITAE  General Meeting May 6, 2015

CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Bauers called the meeting to order at 7:00PM. It had been properly posted and the media notified.


ROLL CALL: Present Frank Bauers, Jeff Hunter, Brian Nerdahl, Richard Held and Steve Perry.  Brian Jopek from the Lakeland Times and 3 others were also present.


AGENDA:  Motion by Perry, second by Held to approve the agenda. Motion carried.


MINUTES: Motion by Perry, second by Nerdahl to approve the minutes of the April 15th, 2015 meeting as amended. Motion carried.


PUBLIC COMMENTS / CORRESPONDENCE:  1) Dept. of Justice report on Hwy G Landfill. 2) Vilas County Zoning advised us that they will process and issue all shoreland zoning related permits independent of any town zoning. 3) Notice of Public Hearing for improvements at the Lakeland Airport on 5/21/15 at 5:00PM. 4) Letter from Vilas County Corporate Council concerning the Poupart property.  5) Thank you from Chairman Bauers for everything for his retirement from being the Fire Chief.   


DEVILS ELBOW UPDATE: Sister Elizabeth from Marywood and Steve Coon from Coontail gave this year’s report to the board. A motion by Held was seconded by Nerdahl to approve the donation of $1000.00 for our fifth and final year to support the Devil’s Elbow. It was unanimously approved and they were thanked for the great report.   


OPERATORS LICENSES: There was 17 applicants for new or renewed licenses and everything checked out. Motion by Held, second by Perry to approve the Operator’s Licenses as presented. Unanimously approved.


CHOOSE TOWN ROADS FOR RESURFACING AND OR CHIPSEALING: The board looked at the conditions of the roads and made a list of problem areas. South Farming Rd – from Hwy 47 to Cagle and Cagle to Sumach Lake Rd, Old Hwy 51S - from Madson to Townline Rd., and Snyder Rd. topped the list. The two roads considered for chipsealing were Arrowhead or Red Pine Cr. The board decided to advertise Old Hwy. 51S and Red Pine Cr. They all agreed that the wings on the plows and the polymer have really saved the roads.


PURCHASE PIER FOR ARROWHEAD BOAT LANDING: There were 3 options to choose from Northland Docks and a motion was made by Nerdahl and seconded by Hunter to buy option B the aluminum truss style with cedar pallet tops, delivered and installed for $2201.40. The motion was unanimously approved.  

ADJOURNMENT:  Motion by Held, second by Perry to adjourn the meeting at 7:45PM. The next general meeting is May 20th, 2015 at 7:00PM.
