October 16, 2013 Meeting Minutes


TOWN OF ARBOR VITAE  - General Meeting - October 16, 2013 

CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Bauers called the general meeting to order at 7:00PM. It had been properly posted and the media notified.

ROLL CALL: Present Frank Bauers, Jeff Hunter, Brian Nerdahl and Steve Perry. Richard Held was absent.  Brian Jopek from the Lakeland Times and 3 others were also present.  

AGENDA: Motion by Perry, second by Nerdahl to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.

MINUTES:  Motion by Hunter, second by Perry to approve the minutes of the October 2nd, 2013 meeting. Motion carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  The September report was reviewed by the board.  Motion by Nerdahl, second by Bauers to approve the report as presented. Motion carried.

PUBLIC COMMENTS / CORRESPONDENCE: 1) North Central WI Regional Plan Commission submitted the Vilas County 5-year Outdoor Recreation Plan with our town’s part included for review. Public comment will be accepted on November 6th and our comments should be included for review before County Board adoption.  2) Tom Hoff reported the lake levels on Johnson Lake are down 6-7”. He wants us to talk to either the DNR or MSA and find out what can be done.  3) Holly Schwartz from Lakeland Retirement thanked the board for past support and requested a 5% increase in the 2014 contribution. It will be used towards the van transportation.


LIFEGUARD AT BRANDY BEACH: There is a lifeguard at Brandy Beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day from 10:00AM-6:00PM five days a week. Days off are Sunday & Wednesday, the two slowest days. There are Commissioners for Brandy Park that would like to see this service discontinued. The lifeguard on duty not only watches swimmers but their presence helps keep the entire park area free from undesirables. A new job description is being formulated. Our board supports the lifeguard position at Brandy Park.


OPERATOR’S LICENSES:  There were 4 applicants that all checked out. Motion by Bauers, second by Hunter to approve the Operator’s Licenses as presented. Unanimously approved.


TRID PROJECT – OLD HWY 51N:  Jim Bollmann from MSA was present to inform the board  that the final items on the checklist had been satisfied. We received a 5-year warranty from Pitlik & Wick, the rock has been changed around the sign at the grade school and we’ve cut the final check to Pitlik and Bollmann feels the final project looks great. The board agreed and a motion by Bauers was seconded by Perry to accept the road with the 5-year warranty. Unanimously approved.  

BUILDING REPORT:  Delayed by Vilas County. 

APPROVE CHECKS & VOUCHERS:  Checks 35470 to 35540 were approved for October in the amount of $153,445.05.  

BUDGET WORKSHOP: The board continued working on the 2014 budget and the accountant made some suggestions that will help him to prepare the Schedule C. The board met again on Friday, October 25th at 12:00PM to finalize figures before publication for a November 20th, 2013 budget meetings.

ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 8:40PM. The next general meeting is November 6th, 2013.
