September 5, 2012 board meeting minutes

TOWN OF ARBOR VITAE  - General Meeting - September 5, 2012

CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Bauers called the meeting to order at 7:00PM. It had been properly posted and the media notified.

ROLL CALL: Present Frank Bauers, Jeff Hunter, Brian Nerdahl, Steve Perry and Richard Held. Brian Jopek from the Lakeland Times and 1 other person was present.

AGENDA:  Motion by Held, second by Perry to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

MINUTES: Motion by Perry, second by Held to approve the minutes of the August 15th, 2012 meeting as read. Motion carried.

PUBLIC COMMENTS / CORRESPONDENCE:  1)Bauers has a meeting with Jim Bollmann on Friday, September 7th to discuss what the town wants to see with the TRID funds.

OPERATOR’S LICENSE: There was 1 application submitted.  Everything checked out. Motion by Bauers, second by Nerdahl to approve the Operator’s license as presented. Unanimously approved.

JOHNSON CREEK RD. CULVERT: Jon Simonsen, DNR, has been out of the office but has agreed to review our permit for the culvert on Monday, Sept. 10th. We hope to have an answer by Tuesday so we can finally proceed. A home owner, Tom Hoff is very concerned with why we are replacing the culvert with a larger culvert and the lake levels as a result of that. We assured him that we can do nothing without a Trans 207 permit from the DNR except line the culvert and this would be only a temporary fix. Hoff has been requesting all correspondence with the DNR and MSA engineers concerning this project. He along with the board would hate to see lake levels fall.

OLD HWY 51N TRIP-D: Jim Bollmann from MSA will meet with Bauers on Friday the 7th and would like the board to put together a wish list for the project. The board agreed that a turn lane from Hwy 51 onto Old Hwy 51 was at the top of the list. If not a turn lane, at least a long taper. Instead of 3.5” of asphalt the board felt that 3” or even 2.75” with polymer would be sufficient. They agreed with the 22’ mat which would allow 2 buses to pass each other but hoped that if they had to have a bike path on both sides of the road that 3’ would be OK. If only one side of the road would need a bike path than 4’ would be fine. Would we still need 3’ gravel shoulders on top of all the paved surface? Bauers will bring back the answers to the board after the meeting. Any board member is welcome to come to the meeting on Friday with MSA.

ADJOURNMENT:  Motion by Perry, second by Held to adjourn the meeting at 7:50PM. The next general meeting is September 19, 2012.
